Summer Skin Myths

Summer Skin Myths

Summer skincare myths can be tricky to navigate, especially with so much advice out there. Here are a few common misconceptions and the truths behind them:

MYTH #1: YOU DON’T NEED SUNSCREEN ON CLOUDY DAYS.

UV rays can penetrate through clouds, so wearing sunscreen every day, regardless of the weather, is crucial to protect your skin from UV damage.

MYTH #2: HIGHER SPF MEANS YOU CAN SKIP REAPPLYING SUNSCREEN.

No matter how high the SPF, you should reapply sunscreen every two hours, or more frequently if you're swimming or sweating.

MYTH #3: YOU SHOULDN’T USE VITAMIN A IN SUMMER.

While Vitamin A can make your skin more sensitive to the sunlight, you can use vitamin A all year round, however you must be diligent about using and reapplying a high factor 50+ sunscreen throughout the day, wearing a hat when outdoors and not staying out in full exposed sun for long periods of time.

MYTH #4: SUNSCREEN IS ONLY NECESSARY WHEN YOU'RE OUTSIDE FOR LONG PERIODS.

Even short periods of sun exposure can contribute to skin damage over time, so applying sunscreen daily is a good habit.

MYTH #5: YOU DON’T NEED SUNSCREEN IF YOU’RE WEARING MAKEUP WITH SPF.

While makeup with SPF offers some protection, it’s usually not enough on its own. Use a dedicated sunscreen underneath your makeup for better coverage.

MYTH #6: OILY SKIN DOESN’T NEED MOISTURISER IN THE SUMMER.

All skin types need moisture, even oily skin. Opt for a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated without feeling greasy.

MYTH #7: TANNING IS SAFE AS LONG AS YOU USE SUNSCREEN.

No level of tanning is completely safe. Sunscreen helps protect against UV damage, but it's best to avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning altogether.

It’s always a good idea to stay informed about skincare practices during the change of seasons and consult with a skincare professional for personalised product and treatment advice.
